[NEWS] 'Second Shot at Love' Choi Sooyoung, A Stirring Performance That Resonates, from Laughter to Tears!
Choi Sooyoung Shines in ‘Second Shot at Love,’ Captivating Viewers with Her Powerful Performance That Lit Up Monday Night
On the May 19 episode of tvN’s Monday–Tuesday drama Second Shot at Love (written by Myeong Soo Hyun, Jeon Ji Hyun / directed by Jang Yu Jeong / planned by Studio Dragon / produced by How Pictures), viewers watched Geumjoo (played by Choi Sooyoung) officially begin her journey toward sobriety.
The relationship between Geumjoo and Euijun (played by Gong Myoung) grew tense again after Geumjoo broke her promise for a house call visit. Geumjoo explained, “Are you cutting me off again? Then let me say this one thing before you do—I didn’t go to Seoul just to drink.” With that, the misunderstanding was cleared up. Later, after Geumjoo finished fixing Euijun’s car, she volunteered to drive for its test run. Using the refunded wedding hall deposit, the two went shopping together. When Geumjoo's heel got scraped while walking around buying gifts for her family, Euijun gently applied ointment—bringing back memories of his college confession to Geumjoo as fireworks lit up the night sky, stirring viewers' hearts.
But the sweet moment didn’t last long. Euijun soon learned that Geumjoo had used the refunded money to buy their dinner. Disapproving, he insisted he couldn't eat a meal paid for with money that hurt someone else. He paid the bill himself and walked away, while Geumjoo, unable to reveal the truth behind her broken engagement, remained silent.
In the meantime, Geumjoo was caught drinking with her father Jungsoo (played by Kim Sang-ho) and older sister Hyeonjoo (played by Jo Yoon-hee), breaking her vow of sobriety. As a result, her mother Gwang-ok (played by Kim Sung-ryoung) sent her off to a forced sobriety camp.
During the only time she was allowed to use her phone, Geumjoo received a text that her ex-boyfriend Jooyeop (played by Yoo Ui-tae) was getting married at the same wedding venue they had planned—only with a different bride. The shocking news left her devastated. Unable to bear it, Geumjoo ran away from camp and broke down in tears the moment she saw Euijun. Comforting her, Euijun signaled a turning point in their relationship, lighting the spark for a deepening romance.
Choi Sooyoung fully embodied the role of Han Geumjoo, a woman who wipes her tears and stands tall even in her most difficult moments. She delivered a compelling performance that conveyed Geumjoo’s emotional highs and lows with authenticity, drawing deep immersion from viewers.
The episode also revealed a heartbreaking backstory: Geumjoo had once forgotten Euijun’s heartfelt confession due to being drunk and mistakenly believed she was simply pitying him for not having a family. This misunderstanding had driven them apart in the past. Now, however, the tables have turned—Euijun, once hurt by Geumjoo, gently comforts her pain in a moving finale, raising anticipation for a budding romance that replaces alcohol with sweet excitement.
Meanwhile, episode 4 of Second Shot at Love, starring Choi Sooyoung, airs tonight (20th) at 8:50 PM on tvN.
